Former Laker, Derek Fisher, was arrested on Sunday June 4th on suspicion of a DUI accident after flipping an SUV on highway 101. While no other parties seem to be involved in the accident, the car was flipped over onto its roof when CHP had arrived. Thankfully, neither Fisher nor Govan, Fisher’s girlfriend and star of the show, “Basketball wives,” were injured in the accident. California Highway patrol claims that Fisher was under the influence at the time of the accident. Interesting to note is that the totaled vehicle was registered to Matt Barnes, Ex-husband to Govan and former teammate of Derek Fisher. Matt Barnes and Derek Fisher were in an altercation when Govan and Barnes were separated and still married.

No Harm, No Foul?

While nobody was seriously injured in this incident, Fisher and Govan are lucky to be alive. However, someone else could have been injured or killed had they been at the wrong place at the wrong time. Drunk driving accidents happen all too frequently and they are entirely preventable. Accidents happen where a driver is unable see the other vehicle until it is too late or another driver simply misjudges their speed and rear-ends another motorist, but drunk driving is a different story. If you plan to drink, have a plan to get home that does not involve you testing fate. Have a designated driver or plan to take a cab, anything works as long as you are not endangering yourself or the innocent people on the roadways around you.
