A fatal crash in Lake View Terrace has claimed four lives, according to local police reports. The California Highway Patrol responded to the motor vehicle accident on the 210 Foothill Freeway in the early morning of Dec. 17. Two vehicles were reportedly involved, but no charges have been filed at this time.

According to the accident report, around 1:47 a.m., CHP received a call about a vehicle heading the wrong way in the eastbound lane of 210. A crash was reported just a few minutes later that involved two sedans. It is unclear at this time which of these two vehicles was traveling the wrong way on the freeway. However, it has been confirmed that one vehicle was being driven by an unknown Chatsworth resident, while the other was driven by a 60-year-old woman carrying two female passengers, aged 30 and 50 respectively.

Of the four people involved, three were declared dead at the scene of the accident by firefighters and medical personnel. The 60-year-old woman survived the crash but was seriously injured and rushed to a local hospital. She was pronounced dead later. Police are still unsure what caused the crash, but they have asked for the support of the community in determining the cause.

Too little information is available about this motor vehicle accident to accurately predict how it will be handled by California authorities. As both drivers were killed in the crash, no criminal charges will be filed. However, one or more of the families of the deceased will be entitled under state law to file a wrongful death suit against the driver deemed materially responsible for the accident.
