Everyone Needs Extra Vigilance
Morning commutes, especially for parents, can be very stressful and cause erratic driving. If your commute takes place near a school, you need to exercise extreme caution. Children and young adults often run across the street if left unattended by their parents. As a driver, it is your responsibility to yield to the pedestrian in front of you. If there is a crossing guard or law enforcement official at an intersection, follow their directions. For parents, teach your children at a young age the importance of waiting at crosswalks until it is safe to cross. Depending on the age of your child, it may be safe when holding the hand of an adult. Determining those rules early may save a child’s life.
