On December 2nd, a 57-year-old pedestrian was struck by an SUV in a hit-and-run crash on state Route 54 in Chula Vista. The pedestrian was walking on the freeway around 10PM, and the driver of the SUV crashed into him, leaving the victim on the freeway.
“A relative of the driver called 911 shortly after 10 p.m. to report the crash, saying the SUV involved was parked in Chula Vista on Fourth Avenue near D Street, said California Highway Patrol Officer Jake Sanchez.
The initial call came in as a property-damage crash, but when officers inspected the Ford Explorer they realized it was a more serious incident, Sanchez said” (SanDiegoUnionTribune.com).
Authorities later found the driver of the SUV, thought to be a 32-year-old Chula Vista man. He was arrested under the suspicion of the hit-and-run felony.
The 57-year-old victim had died when the authorities found him on Route 54 near Interstate 805 at about 11:40PM, Sunday December 2nd. His name was not released to the public.
