On February 18th at 3:30PM in Chatsworth on De Soto Avenue, a 2011 Infiniti M37 was traveling southbound at a high speed when it crashed into a Toyota Avalon turning left onto Plummer Street. The driver and passenger in the Toyota Avalon were killed at the scene.
“The driver of the Avalon, identified only as a 72-year-old man, and his 73-year-old wife both died at the scene, said Capt. Andy Neiman, who oversees traffic operations at the LAPD’s Valley Bureau. The couple’s 9-year-old granddaughter, who was riding in the backseat, remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition” (LATimes.com).
The driver of the 2011 Infiniti M37 is a 26-year-old Grenada Hills man, who was hospitalized due to severe injuries from the crash. Police are reviewing video evidence and will determine whether or not street racing was the cause of this fatal accident. No arrests have been made yet on this case, but it is still under investigation.
The area where the crash occurred is a popular place in the city for illegal street-racing. Many accidents have occurred here due to speed racing. This reckless driving has killed drivers, passengers and pedestrians.
