Authorities are investigating the death of a 14-year-old girl who was allegedly hit by a big rig on her way to school. The pedestrian incident occurred on Thursday, April 4, 2019. The decedent and her 12-year-old sister were walking on a green light and were crossing the street at 37th Place and Broadway in Los Angeles when they were hit.

The driver of the big rig told investigators he did not see the girls crossing in front of him. Authorities are investigating whether he was distracted at the time of the accident. One witness claims she saw the driver looking down.

This was an area where many students walk and it’s a reminder to all drivers to slow down and exercise extra caution when in school zones or areas where a school is nearby.

The driver of the big rig has not been arrested at the time of this writing. Authorities are still trying to determine whether the semi-truck driver was using his cell phone.
