On Tuesday, April 30th at about 8pm, a vehicle driving on 10 Freeway crashed into a stalled Metro bus near Alhambra.
A Silver Line Metro bus driving in the HOV Express lane was experiencing an electrical issue and had to stop on the freeway, says Jose Ubaldo, a Metro spokesperson. Just moments after the bus coming to a halt, the bus was rear-ended by a white car that was traveling behind the bus.
Just minutes after the fatal crash, the white vehicle was set ablaze, and within seconds was fully engulfed. Witnesses to this crash told first responders that the driver of the white car did not exit the vehicle before it went up in flames. At 8:35pm, the driver of the white car was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the Metro Bus, along with four passengers did not sustain any serious injuries. To date, there is no further information on what caused the electrical problem with the Metro Bus, and no further information on the driver who died at the scene. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating this fatal incident.
