On Monday, May 13th a 33-year-old woman was struck in a hit-and-run accident on 91 Freeway in Corona, California.
The victim got out of her car to check on her dogs in the back seat, when a driver under the influence hit her and sped off. The accident occurred on the eastbound side of the freeway near Green River Road.
“At the time of the crash, Desiree was following an acquaintance who was in possession of her animals. Something upset the dogs in the front car, so they both stopped on the side of the freeway.
Desiree got out and walked up to the front car to check on her dogs when, from out of nowhere, she was struck by the driver of a truck. That driver fled the scene,” (ABC7.com).
33-year-old Desiree Taitano was rushed to the hospital, but passed away later that day.
California police officers found the hit-and-run driver’s vehicle abandoned about 500 feet from the scene of the accident. He was later identified as 48-year-old Jose Hidalgo of Corona. Police arrested Hidalgo for felony hit-and-run and DUI.
