One woman has lost her life, and a second individual is in the hospital, following a single-car crash on Interstate 15. California Highway Patrol is still gathering information about the specifics of the auto accident, which happened in the early morning of Aug. 11. So far, they have not been able to determine the cause of the crash, but charges will not be forthcoming, as the driver perished in the accident.

According to the limited information available in the report, it appears the woman was driving northbound on Interstate 15 around Carroll Canyon Road at approximately 1:18 a.m. when the crash occurred. For reasons that have yet to be determined, the woman lost control of the vehicle, which left the road. The car struck both a tree and a light pole before coming to rest, with photos taken at the crash site showing the vehicle completely totalled.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by arriving medical personnel. Her passenger, a male, was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries. His current status is unknown, and neither he nor the driver have been publicly identified by police, likely pending notification of next of kin.

California police will continue to investigate the auto accident to determine whether driver error, negligence, recklessness or intoxication were contributing factors in the crash. If the accident is determined to have been caused by the driver, the injured man may be able to sue her estate for personal injury in civil court. The court may award financial damages to the injured party if sufficient evidence exists to prove her culpability in the crash.
