2 Killed After Vehicle Crashes into Parked Car

Last month on July 5, 2019, a car that was fleeing from the California Highway Patrol when the driver crashed into parked vehicles in a CVS parking lot in Northridge.

Around 1:00AM, West Valley California Highway Patrol officers were searching for a white Toyota Paseo that they suspected may have been stolen. A man in his 20’s yielded, but then as the officers approached, he fled the scene. The white Toyota was heading southbound on Reseda Boulevard.

The CHP officers began to pursue the white Toyota, but the driver of the vehicle ran two red lights at a high speed and the officers decided to discontinue the pursuit for safety reasons.

Just after the officers stopped pursuing the white Toyota, they drove southbound on Reseda Boulevard where they came across the white Toyota in a CVS parking lot. The car had crashed into parked cars in the CVS lot, south of Devonshire.

A middle-aged woman that was in one of the parked cars involved in the accident was transported to a local hospital where she passed away due to her severe injuries from the crash. The victim’s identity was not released.

The driver of the white Toyota in suspicion was ejected from the car upon the crash, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger of the Toyota was rushed to a nearby hospital as he suffered serious life threatening injuries.

The fatal crash is still under investigation by the CHP. The CHP does not know why the driver of the Toyota lost control, however speed was likely a factor.

The officers closed off the area of the accident scene to gather statements from witnesses and review video surveillance of the area in order to figure out an estimated speed the vehicle was traveling.
