NASCAR driver Tony Stewart accidentally kills another driver on the raceway

Tony Stewart is known in the racecar community for being temperamental and frequently getting into spats with both reporters and drivers alike. But this time, “Smoke’s” unconventional attitude isn’t his biggest problem. During a caution period in a sprint car race, Stewart struck another driver who was on foot in the Canandaigua Motorsports Park in upstate New York. After being rushed to the local hospital, the 20 year old driver, Kevin Ward, was pronounced dead. While Stewart clearly did not intend to kill the other driver, his run-ins with other NASCAR participants have often turned ugly, with fistfights littering his races over the last ten years. This attitude had previously endeared him to his fans, who felt that Stewart was the only driver brash enough to act how he felt regardless of what his sponsors desired. They also enjoyed his choice of using smaller, open-wheel cars on the track.

Aggression on the road isn’t just limited to NASCAR drivers – this is a serious issue for everyone on the road. Because driving is such a routine task, many people fail to remember that they are operating a heavy piece of machinery that has the ability to severely injure or even kill other people. It is common practice to take a drive when one is angry or upset to cool off, but it is essential to remember that if you’re taking your anger on the road, you also have the potential to deal out deadly consequences due to either distraction or misplaced hostility.

It is not uncommon for these types of accidents to result in death – and when your loss comes as a direct result of another driver’s careless or reckless actions on the road, your pain and grief may be mixed with deep anger. If you lost someone you love in a car accident, the negligent party needs to be held accountable. Learn more about how we can help by calling Scott J.
