Scott J. Corwin 2024 “Overcoming Adversity” Scholarship Essay Contest

Sponsored by Scott J. Corwin, A Professional Law Corporation, the third annual scholarship is being offered in 2023-2024 to students attending (or entering) a California college or university. We will begin accepting applications on November 1st, 2023. The winner will receive a $1,000 award for use toward their college tuition and/or fees.

Requirement: Winner’s school must be able to accept a wire transfer for payment of the award.

Attorney Scott J. Corwin launched this scholarship in 2018. Scott believes strongly in the value of education and the importance of making it possible for students from all walks of life to achieve their academic goals

The Format

The scholarship will be presented to the winner of an essay contest. Essays must be minimum of 500 words. Essays must be uploaded using the below entry form. Accepted essay file formats: Text File (.txt, .rtf), Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx) or PDF (.pdf) formats only. Essays will be judged on several criteria:

  • Strength of argument
  • Overall writing skills, including grammatical accuracy
  • Unique and compelling approach to the topic
  • Adherence to the given topic
  • Supporting evidence of factual assertions

The Topic

Here at Scott J. Corwin, A Professional Law Corporation, we work with people who overcome great adversity after a bad accident or injury. How has adversity shaped your life? Explain why the adversity you faced and overcame in the past will help you succeed in your next step towards gaining a degree in higher education. How do you plan to use your degree to help others overcome adversity or improve their lives in turn?

Submission Deadline

The deadline for essay submissions is March 15th, 2024.

Eligibility Of Applicants

This scholarship is reserved for college or university students entering or currently attending a California institution of higher education. Students entering or continuing any two-year or four-year undergraduate program in Spring 2024 or Fall 2024 are eligible for the scholarship. Applicants must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0/4.

Prize Distribution

The $1,000 award will be paid directly to the winner’s school registrar’s office or other eligible entity when necessary. The winner’s school must be able to accept a wire transfer for payment of the award.

Review Of Applications And Selection Of Winner

Attorney Scott J. Corwin and the firm’s staff will review applications to determine a scholarship winner. The winner will be selected and notified by August 15th, 2024.
